For years, I have been working on a series of boxes: physical, virtual, metaphoric. This is a small sampling of some of them. Pictured right are images from bike ride box (1999). In this screen-based, QTVR object, a cardboard box becomes kaleidescope-like, revealing glimpses of a bike ride in a riverside park. As the user slides mouse over image of the box, it spins 360 degrees in either direction. Each 20 degree increment holds a different image.
Box #5 (1999)video clip (2 mgs) An interactive video installation that wants you to get closer. As one approaches the hanging construction, the closest hinged wall swings down, revealing video inside. The video shows pedestrians falling in and out of sidewalk synchronized swimming routines. As the visitor walks away, the box closes back up. Technical Note: Micro controller, photocells, masonite, metal rods and fixtures, fishing line, servo motors, plexiglass and video projector.
Box #6 (2000)video clip (1.6 mgs)
An interactive video installation about ambivelance and the difficulties of ordinary
human interaction. A wall-mounted cardboard box, with a projection screen back, users control video images by moving
the box's cardboard flaps. |
